Gift Aid
If you are a UK taxpayer (income and/or capital gains) then Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of a gift to charity. From 6 April 2000 the original system of Gift Aid certification was replaced with a new, simpler Gift Aid Declaration.
The University of the Third Age is a non profit-making body the objectives of which are to advance the education and quality of life of the public, in particular that of older people, and as such it has benefited from these changes with members’ subscriptions being allowable for tax relief. The essentials of the scheme are as follows:-
To qualify for the Scarborough U3A Gift Aid scheme you must have paid UK income tax of at least £5.00 each year , and you must make a declaration to this effect by ticking the gift aid declaration box on your enrolment form.
If your circumstances change and you no longer pay income tax and/or capital gains tax, or if you wish to cancel your declaration at any time for any other reason, you can do so by simply notifying the Treasurer. Please note that all such information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
If you are unsure whether or not you qualify as a gift aid donor contact the Treasurer or ask your local Tax office for Leaflet IR 65.
You must notify Scarborough U3A if you change your name or address while the Gift Aid Declaration is in force.
